Another multi alarm fire in the city leave several families with no place to call home. It happened in the 600 block of Dunn Barton Avenue, not far from Memorial Stadium. Two alarms for families affected. It was a smoky fire that started in the second floor rear of 656 Dumbarton and spread to the upper floors of several of the other houses. One of them belongs to Alice Johnson. I was sitting there watching television and he said the house was on fire next door to me, so he brought me on over here. I'm kind of careful about that, right? And, you know, she was just scared, I guess, that God's work and, you know, she just ran up the steps. She must be real exhausted and she can't really breathe. Right. At the present time, all we're seeing now is down in no Howard County, a little bit, just a little light sprinkle occurring there. And most of this is ground clutter, but there is some light sprinkling. A sprinkle is a good description for this because they're very, very light showers really won't amount to much of anything. And over the next couple hours, anything is falling out of sky is going to diminish and pretty much die out. And that's going to turn out to be relatively clear and actually quite cool. Now, what's been happening is we have a frontal system as it shows on our map system. Yeah, the forecast map here where the front that has passed through now will be well off the coast. We're going to settle into a ridge system, but a strong northwesterly flow has brought some Canadian air into the region. These systems upstream from us really won't bother us very much as the increased warmth and humidity, say, into Wednesday and Thursday, that will give us a threat of showers forecast for the rest of tonight, though, looks like this. We're going to be seeing baseball scores. New York three, Toronto, eight. That must be past history. Our forecast for tonight. Is it in there somewhere? Forecast? Yes. Okay. He's hitting a great but nobody's driving him in. The pitching has been reasonable. All these games in Boston have been close games. They could have won all three of them. Yeah, but. But they're just not doing enough to win. They're doing just enough to lose today's game. Another perfect case in point. Losing continues for the Orioles who are really struggling for runs once again today. The Orioles lost a game that easily could have won, if only for a little offense. That was plenty of defense to go around in the Red Sox. Third, Jody Reed lifts a pop up down the first base line. That's a lot tougher than it looks. Randy Milligan goes after it, fight in the song circles and makes the catch in the Orioles. Fifth, Daniel Nixon tries to get it going with a drag, but he botches it. But Greg Harrison, Greg Harris with the heads up, play dives and saves it. Cal Ripken continues his hot streak for 12 women, nine for 12 for the series. His fourth straight three hit game, a single in a pair of doubles today. But he was the only Oriole to test Harris, who went eight innings and only gave up five hits at all. Darryl Evans could probably be elected mayor of Boston tomorrow for the second straight game. He provides the home run that besides it a screen shot over the monster in the seventh inning. The Red Sox win a two to nothing and afterwards the hero had praise for Greg Harris and the Boston pitching staff. You know, what can I say? I mean, can't say anything more about our pitching. Just done an outstanding job all year long. Well, I mean, I made a couple of mistakes and it's just that one that, you know, went to the screen. It was the one that really shows up the most. The team has the night off tomorrow. They resume Tuesday against Cleveland at the stadium in the National League. There were a couple of spine tingling finishes in Atlanta. The Braves and the Padres were all tied up at ten in the bottom of the 12th when Andre Thomas smashed one over the wall and left for his second home run the season, the Braves outlast and outlast the Padres 11 to 10 at Shea Stadium. The Mets picked up three runs in the ninth to beat the Phillies. Tim Tuttle's two out pinch hit in the Gap, drove in Dave Magadan with the game winner. The Mets win 6 to 5 to sweep the Phils and win their sixth straight in World Cup soccer. There were a pair of second round games today. West Germany defeated the Dutch 2 to 1 to continue in the tournament. There's a free kick for Brazil. There's a good shot. But Sergio Goyette makes the save. Argentina eliminates Brazil. Final score was one to nothing. In golf, the good times roll on for U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin. Just a week after winning the Open in a playoff, Irwin finds himself in the winner's circle at Westchester, Irwin and Blaine McAllister. We're tied going into the final round. But Irwin was unstoppable with four straight rounds shooting in the 60s on 13. He was at 14 under par when he approached the green with a short iron shot. Irwin failed to convert the birdie putt, but he saved par to hold on for the lead. Meanwhile, McAllister fell off the pace on one on 14. He's looking at a long downhill putt to score a bird and try to get back into it. The putt drops, but so did McAllister. He ended up in sixth place, five strokes back on 18. Irwin closes out a round of 66 with this birdie attempt. The putt goes, and the U.S. Open champion picks up his second paycheck in a week. And he has a little bit more fun with his friends in the gallery. It gets to be a kind of a familiar sight for Hale Irwin, winner at Westchester, as well as the U.S. Open beginning tomorrow at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the opening rounds of the 1990 Wimbledon championships. And for this year, at least, some of the elder statesmen will find a challenge in the young upstarts of the game. Obviously the four players that will draw the most attention will be the finalists. Steffi Graf returns to defend her title.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136104/file/252529#t=1506.73,1601.12"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136104/file/252529/transcript/70842/annotation/16","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"But watch out for the ever present Martina Navratilova at age 33. She'll be gunning for her ninth Wimbledon crown. The young guard on hand to challenge Graf and Martina includes 16 year old Monica Seles from Yugoslavia, who's coming off victories in the German and the French Open tournaments. And the 14 year old sensation from Florida, Jennifer Capriati, who in her first trip as a pro to the All England Club, is seeded all the way up at number 12. On the men's side, the money is on three time champion Boris Becker playing Ivan Lendl for the championship for the second year running, despite winning last year. Becker finds himself seeded number two behind Lendl, who has never before won at Wimbledon. But don't overlook Sweden's Stefan Edberg. Although still very young, he's an experienced player who's likely to be there in the end. And of course, there's always John McEnroe, who won this thing three times, most recently in 1984. If he can keep his wits about him, Mac could be back. Yeah. Okay. Thank you very much, Sandy. Nice for putting that together for us. Wimbledon starts around 1130 tomorrow. I think it's going to be Ivan Lendl winning his first Wimbledon championship. And Monica Seles, Steffi Graf set for the female cast. That's what you think. All right, Chris, thank you, sir. Have a good week. Finally tonight, we report on a way to steer young people away from drugs and keep them on their toes at the same time. It is rope jumping. And some of the swiftest kids were getting high off the ground of the national double Dutch jump roping competition in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Now, when she was a bit younger, Oprah Winfrey was quite good with the rope, too.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136104/file/252529#t=1601.81,1696.16"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136104/file/252529/transcript/70842/annotation/17","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So she was there to hand the awards out to the kids and to encourage all of them to jump for joy and not for drugs.
