Every big bookstore is intimidated. And the fact that Rushdie may have written something blasphemous is not a whole lot different from from the guy who who produced The Last Temptation. It's not a whole lot different from Philip Roth, who in the counter life wrote these awful things about Orthodox Jews who he says, pray to stones.
