A lot of downtown commuters here, we're doing double takes, followed by double fakes as they try to get into the proper lane to go south through the Inner harbor this morning. And the reason they had trouble getting through is something's coming down. It wasn't so much gridlock as a game of what's my lane on Lake Street, just south of downtown this morning. And it was that building in the upper right hand corner of your screen, the old McCormick Spice headquarters, causing it all. As you can see from this angle. Most of the building is already gone. All that remains is the light street facade. And that's coming down next. And the contractor does not want any concrete to come crashing down on any commuters. There's not a whole lot to look at. Basically, we're dealing with a stalled front down to the south and there are some showers moving along this front, little upper air disturbance. It's not going to get to us. The dominant area of influence of this giant fair weather system is just going to prevent anything inclement. And as far as I'm concerned, on a summer day and afternoon shower is inclement from getting up into the air. There's just a firm blockage set up just down or south. We won't see something dramatic. Go ahead and take a look at the satellite photo. We talked about Voyager weather satellites. How did anybody ever do weather without them in this picture is like 20 minutes old. Take them 23, 23,300 miles in space. And there you can see where this dominant influence where the actual blockage, if you want to put that is of this nice clean air, is set itself up just down to our south. Now we are looking at some high clouds hanging down there associated with this disturbance going to be moving down to the south. And it's real possible, particularly if you're watching us, let's say from Hagerstown out to the west, you could see a high layer of clouds come over today. But as far as shower activity, it's just not in the forecast. Now, we'll tell you this, the high pressure off the fair weather system controlling our weather today will also control our weather tomorrow. But if you've been watching the weather at all, I mean, you know, for any couple of years, you know what's going to happen. The high is going to move off the coast clockwise. Well, there's no time in a day that we aren't tired and think, maybe I need a vitamin. If you don't eat right, you may need a supplement. But getting says most of us actually eat better than we think we do. For instance, you get up in the morning and you eat a cereal. Fortified cereal. Therefore, you've already had your bottom pill because a lot of those are 100%. Then you take a vitamin. So now you have 200%. And that could be trouble. You can actually overdose on certain vitamins that are stored in your body fat.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136082/file/252484#t=1207.1,1297.85"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136082/file/252484/transcript/70831/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Vitamins like a K and D. They don't need as much. Your vitamin needs are really a balancing act. Basically, breast cancer death rates were highest in the northern half of the country, and doctors really can't say why. In June, Lila had surgery at Union Memorial Hospital. Doctors removed a lump and her breast and really had no problem with the with the operation. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, thanks to routine checkups. Lila caught her cancer in time. According to this study, many women don't. In 1986, more than 40,000 women died of breast cancer in the United States. Are you surprised by this study? Yes, I am. And I'm not sure quite what to make of it. According to the study, the mortality rate among black women is 12% higher than whites. Black women do worse than white women for all the stages of breast cancer. And if the northern states are having a higher black population, perhaps part of this reflects the higher death rate that we're seeing. The best bargain in space continues to pay off even as it leaves Earth and the solar system far behind. Voyager two finished its last rendezvous with a flyby today of Neptune and its moons. In tonight's Changing World Report. Alex Dimitri takes a look at the little spacecraft that has changed the way that we look at worlds. When Voyager slipped over the edge of Neptune this morning and put a manmade machine within 3000 miles of a world nearly 3 billion miles away. A giant blue world of frozen storms and rings. A world with eight moons, six of which Voyager discovered, including Triton, perhaps the only moon in our solar system with an atmosphere of its own. It turns out that Triton does have a haze, and that means Triton does have an atmosphere. This haze is between 5 and 10km above the limb. Even more than Neptune, Triton has left scientists gasping. A moon of methane, glaciers, mountains and wide plains, unmarked by craters. Not a sterile satellite, but a living world. This moon is a little bit smaller than than our own moon, but it has a gaseous atmosphere. And that suggests that it may also have weather. Tonight, actor Paul Michael Glaser, as we come back, is going public with the story of how Aids affected his family. The star of TV's Starsky and Hutch told a Los Angeles newspaper that Aids caused the death of his seven year old daughter last year. He said his wife and five year old son are infected with the HIV virus, though neither show signs of having the disease. His wife became infected through a blood transfusion eight years ago. Glaser decided to tell his story after the National Enquirer got hold of the information. In tonight's Aids Lifeline, the cost of treating the deadly Aids disease could be cut in half. Researchers at Johns Hopkins say combining the drug AZT with a drug used to treat gout could significantly reduce the cost of the anti-AIDS medication.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136082/file/252484#t=2911.4,3013.69"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136082/file/252484/transcript/70831/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Apparently, the combination allows AZT to stay in the body longer, and that allows patients to use less of the drug. Another organization that provides free food is having trouble doing its job tonight. On an average day, our daily bread soup kitchen provides a good hot meal to about 450 needy people. But for the past month, it has received as many as 700 daily visitors, causing its food supply to drop considerably. Tonight, we have a follow up report to our Eyewitness News series Sad Streets. Sandra Pig. They revisited the Belvedere Corridor and shows us a group of teens who are excelling despite the odds. Like most teenagers, Todd Chapman has a summer job. He weatherize his homes. But for this 16 year old, summer work means more than earning some extra cash. It was a pretty job. I didn't know that I'd be on the streets, you know, in the crime scene, you know, And the streets of Todd Chapman's neighborhood make up the Belvedere corridor where good people live in fear of a small group of drug dealers and their violence. 15 teenagers, including whether Riser Todd Chapman, escaped the violence this summer through the northwest Baltimore Corporation. I think a lot of teenagers today want to work, but they don't have the opportunity. And by this way, they had opportunity to work. And I think because we gave them an opportunity, the chance to work, they loved it. A simple program, a simple idea, give young people meaningful jobs, pay them, encourage them, support them, show them an alternative to a life on the streets where the lure of drugs and quick money is seen as the only way out. You have to go down into West Virginia, see some more showers and a few thunderstorms in extreme southwestern Virginia. This is along the frontal boundary that moved through our region yesterday and gave us the gorgeous day to day. It remains rather stationary down or south, south of the front. It's hot and humid. The heat humidity will somewhat return to our region early next week. We'll start to see an increase in some cloudiness on Sunday. And a pretty nice weekend. Plenty of sun down there. Further west you go, the more clouds you'll see down in Virginia, a lot more clouds and maybe some showers by tomorrow afternoon. A better chance also on Sunday. Take a look at what's going on as far as our radar is concerned. Showers continue stream, south West Virginia, near Bristol, Tennessee area and then extreme western North Carolina. The clouds associated with that funnel system are down to our south and some of the clouds are going to start to roll back in our direction during the weekend. For the most part, east of the bay, I think it will be just fine. Lots of showers, as you can see, even at this late hour in this very warm, humid air mass. This is the one we had a couple of days ago, but it's now down to our south Gulf moisture. Coming up, some big storms in portions of Illinois, Missouri, eastern Kansas, west Texas. Also some of this stuff will head back in our direction to the latter for the weekend. Now, cloud cover. Here's it. Basically, here's where the ridge of high pressure is situated. Comes down the coast to about North Carolina and over this area of clouds and then up through western Minnesota. This whole region is being dominated by a nice, cool, high pressure system. Tonight, once again, up in New York state, interior sections of Vermont, New Hampshire, they'll be below freezing in a few of those cold, isolated valleys up there. Showers and clouds over Florida. Here's a funnel system as it kind of snakes up to our west, warm air trying to override this cooler air for the most part.
