However, there was one crop that really got hurt, and that happened to be the artichoke. I guess you can recall just about a week or so ago, artichokes were very, very scarce. As a matter of fact, they were very, very expensive. They were higher than they have ever been. And the reason for that was the rain that we had in the early part of this year. As a matter of fact, we had so much rain that many of the plants were lost. They drowned in all of that water. And not only that, they had to cut back quite a few of the plants so that the air and the sunshine could get into the ground and dry it out. And as a result, we had very, very few artichokes when we should have had them in the months of April and May. However, folks, all of those artichoke plants that have been cut back are now producing. So therefore, when you go to market, you're going to find artichokes are lower in price than they have been. Now, you know, we usually say in April and May that when you go to the market, when you want to select artichoke, they should be nice and compact. However, the summer crop of artichoke is certainly different. You're going to find out that it's going to be kind of cone -shaped, and you're going to find that the leaves are going to be widespread. But that's just a characteristic of the summer artichoke. Don't worry about it. The flavor is just as good, and it's a great artichoke. He is expected to come out soon in support of gay rights legislation, move to San Francisco, and start a new life as a homosexual and political activist, that according to the New York Times. Los Angeles lawyer Robert Steinberg recently claimed he had proof -linking government officials to a sex orgy. He was subpoenaed today in the sex tape case, but when asked under oath about the tapes, he said next to nothing. He took the Fifth Amendment 23 times. The tapes reportedly showed the late Alfred Bloomingdale, former model Vicki Morgan, and two Reagan administration officials in an orgy. The President Reagan has paid scant attention to the sex tape charges. Tonight, he and a new member of the Reagan team, Henry Kissinger, are busy shaping U .S. policy in Central America. Kissinger heads the President's 12 -man commission on the region. He says a trip there is possible, and if it does take place, it's highly probable it will include a visit to Nicaragua. An impressive array of government officials visited this area today. Their concern? The Chesapeake Bay. Governor Hughes hosted a tour aboard the state yacht Aurora. Let's take a look at our radar, nothing but a lot of ground clutter here. We've got some rain down to our south and southeast. It's moved offshore and continues to move away from the Virginia coast. Will not bother the area at all. It's moving away from the region. Clear skies moving in from the north and northwest and looks like things are gonna be pretty nice in the next couple of days. This is actually the funnel system that moved through our region yesterday. gave us some scattered showers and thunderstorms earlier and now it's giving us clear weather from Canada, a large high pressure system moving in, very nice weather picture. These showers and thunderstorms will start to diminish later on tonight but that cool weather has broken that huge heat wave across the south and it will give those folks a break for the next couple of days. There's the frontal system way down across Georgia tomorrow. High pressure over the entire eastern half of the United States gives us nice weather, Slow and gradual warming coming in from the southwest later in the week, but no rain expected, perhaps maybe a light shower or thundershower by Friday or Saturday. Forecast looks like this. 85 tomorrow maximum most of the day in the upper seventies. Sunny, sunny, sunny, up to 88 by Thursday.
