A source close to the investigation of the East African embassy bombing says some of the key suspects now being held in Nairobi may soon be extradited to the United States. Another is Halid Salim, who has a Yemeni passport. He was arrested on the site of the Nairobi bombing. The source says the investigation by FBI and Kenyan agents is making rapid progress. Information from the suspects led them to this hotel where some of the alleged bombers stayed. A number of the FBI agents who were sent to Kenya are now being sent to Egypt and Pakistan to track down leads from the suspects. Kenya has an extradition treaty with the US. Bill Plante joins us this morning from Massachusetts with the latest on Mr. Clinton. Good morning, Bill. Good morning to you, Jane. This has been a very untypical vacation. The president is still in seclusion. He came back from Washington on Friday after going home for a day in connection with the strikes in Afghanistan and the Sudan. And we really haven't seen him since. He and the first lady did go out to private Home on Saturday night. There was a big party and it was said that a number of their friends came up and wish them well and offered their support. But they've been very low key. There is obviously, in the words of Press Secretary Mike McCurry, some healing still going on here. Matter of fact, we go on over here and deal with this. Okay. You know, the bodies, the interesting story, we'll touch on it, but we will also touch on possibility once again, getting some thunderstorms near this afternoon of this evening. It's a better chance, a higher probability than wise when Don and I will do in the morning show here, just about six hours ago. Take a look at Sky, Iowa. A little bit of a haze around the area right now. Low humidity. Yeah, it certainly is going to be an impressive day. Heat index values could in some places get to 100 or 101. I want you to look at these severe storms that fired themselves up this morning and that have just not stopped, as a matter of fact. Look at this line now, stretching southwest the northeast from central Pennsylvania on up into the southern into the southern Finger Lakes region of New York. This is an upper air disturbance. I really can't even put a symbol on the map saying here they are. What? We show you our surface maps. This is an upper air disturbance and it certainly has caused quite an outbreak of showers and thunderstorms. Now, I got to tell you, we have a blocking high running our weather. Put this high right down to our south. It's going to try and keep all this action out of here. You could plot a couple of lows up to the north that their map features. And I put them on there, just to be exact. All concerned about right now is this high, this strong southerly flow of real hot air and the collision of this upper air disturbance with that warm air. And if there's high is going to be able to block these storms out of our area once again, right now, we'll mention a chance for an afternoon or evening thunderstorm. We won't exactly. In Atlantic City, rescuers had to pull swimmers from the water. Some gambling they could beat Bonnie's power and the riptide she was creating. It's definitely a rough ride today than it's been in the last few days. A strong undertow. It really gets a hold and pulls you out. Hurricane watches are posted for much of the Southeast. Bonnie could hit shore as early as Wednesday. Late Monday, some 1300 National Guardsmen were told to report to coastal staging areas to help South Carolina prepare for a possible direct hit. Right now, our greatest responsibility since we can steer the storm is to make sure that we're ready for it if it comes. Forecasters say it is still too early to know where Bonnie will hit the U.S., if at all. But that hasn't stopped hurricane veterans from hitting the stores and stocking up on emergency supplies. Yeah, and that's typical of these tropical systems. Hurricanes, tropical storms are just notoriously fickle and unpredictable. And how fast they're going to move, what direction they're going to move. And it really it becomes an hour to hour watch pattern. So, you know, actually, we talk about Charley, we talk about Bonnie. There's also Tropical Storm Danielle. Now, the next one in the series just off the coast of Africa is still about 800 miles east of the east of the the Windward Islands out there. So it's a long way off. But the next one in the list is coming this way. Okay. Let's go ahead and take a look at the tropics and get the latest on what is going on with Bonnie. We do have the 11:00 observation from the National Hurricane Center in. And there you see Bonnie sitting more or less in the same position that it's been in since Saturday. Looking like you can sort of detect it here. That is trying to make a little bit of a move now toward the north northwest. It's picked up a little bit of speed since the earlier observation, but not a whole heck of a lot. These are the 11:00 coordinates, 27.2 degrees north latitude, 73.1 west longitude. Winds still 115 miles an hour, gusts to 140 miles an hour. Moving right now, north northwest, about eight miles an hour. It was a 5 to 6 miles an hour earlier. So the motion still pretty slow. And what we're hoping for, of course, is any luck at all, the thing will veer off and stay off of the Carolina coast. But as we said, it's still very difficult to predict the direction of these things, and it's anybody's guess at this point.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136471/file/253055#t=6479.65,6568.88"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136471/file/253055/transcript/71186/annotation/64","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Here's The Closer View right now and gives us some idea of its relative, its relationship to the eastern coast of the United States. Watch means, of course, make preparations. There is potential for the hurricane to impact those regions. As far as we're concerned, the most reasonable thing for us in Maryland to be wary of is high surf right now, Kyra. And we talked about some of the problems down at Ocean City. And in fact, right now, those are the things we are most concerned about in Maryland. If there's changes, of course, you'll get it first right here, 80 degrees our sultry August evening temperature right now. Humidity's very definitely up there. And as we have commented before, this is really the warmest summer pattern we've had through the month of August. Our high temperature today, 95 degrees, well above normal for this time of year. A record high was set for this day down at Dulles Airport in northern Virginia. They got to 97. So pretty warm all the way across the region. South winds expected on the bay, 10 to 15 knots or so. And the vast majority of us won't see thunderstorms tonight, although tomorrow, later in the day, the and the chance increases somewhat. Here's the satellite view. We've got this high pressure system with tropical heat and humidity from the eastern part of the country all the way out to a very hot weather system out in the Texas Oklahoma region. Weak frontal passage, which should drift through here tomorrow will usher in some drier conditions. Not really a huge change, but I think it will give us a little bit of a break in the humidity by, say, Wednesday. Tomorrow, though, another day like today. Look for temperatures over 90 degrees, 92 where we are, 94 at Salisbury, even down the ocean. I'll bet it gets to 90 degrees there. Also for the rest of tonight. Then partly to mostly cloudy skies, hot and humid thunderstorm in some spots. Localized and rather scattered, I think 72 hour overnight low. Then for tomorrow, clouds and sunshine, hazy, hot and humid. A summer day, definitely 92 degrees. And then, of course, Wednesday, that weak frontal system passes through. Ought to dry us out a little bit. I think the humidity a little bit less noticeably less on Wednesday. Then the big question, Thursday, Friday is just what does Bonnie do? So that's a big question mark right now. Right now, it does look like Saturday. Once we get past Bonnie, it will be back into another summery situation. So we'll be keeping an eye on Bonnie.
