Tonight, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world are celebrating Christmas. It was a day for quiet strolls at Harbor Place. Stores were closed, but that's what made it quiet. Even our feathered friends got into the act. It was hardly reminiscent of Christmas. Now I'm not knocking the fact that it was warm for Christmas today. In fact, if it were left up to me, it would probably never be cold and snowy. But the fact that it was warm today does some interesting things to some very old Christmas traditions. Take Christmas carols. People dressed in tennis shoes, open toed shoes or with no shoes don't exactly bring to mind. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire and the gentle unfrozen waters of the Inner Harbor aren't what December is supposed to be all about. Hundreds of Baltimoreans flocked indoors not to escape the cold, but to have Christmas dinner. The poor and hungry of Baltimore found food and friends at our daily bread on West Franklin Street. Christmas dinners are given free to the needy, those who might otherwise have no Christmas dinner at all. Christmas morning turned out to be even worse for an East Baltimore family burned out of its house and on fire, investigators say is a case of arson. The fire in the 1100 block of North Patterson Park Avenue roared through the row house with a family of nine had just finished Christmas preparations. The tree was hung and decorated and presents wrapped and waiting for loved ones. It was about 330 when Mr. and Mrs. Brady Graham began smelling smoke. They looked in their own house, but there was no sign of fire, at least not yet. Listen, was today a great day? I'm telling you. We talked about this last night. I was trying to convince Jerry and how, hey, it's going to be all right. So there's no snow. You might as well have a day like today. High temperature officially 69 degrees where you were. It may have been up to 70 degrees right now on TV Hill. It's 65 degrees. 66 in the suburbs now, 93% humidity. Winds south southwest now at ten. Barometer rising from 30, 20 to a low tide tonight. Fort McHenry at 55. High tide, 220, sunset tonight at 449. Tomorrow morning will rise at 7:24 a.m.. Great day to be out on the links today. Teed off 10:00 in the morning. Got a brand new nine iron for Christmas. What? Did I tell you? Something. See this? This is a fairway. I was back here in the woods. Brand new five irons going out the door. I'll get a Christmas present, Miles. Break it right out to get it. Let's take a look at the sky track satellite photo. Okay. Not kidding around on my show. What's coming off? Because we do have some serious problems. Not real serious, but weather is going to change over the next 2 or 3 days. Temperatures are still going to be warm, incredibly unseasonable. Low temperature tonight, 57 degrees. That is 15 degrees higher than our normal high temperature for this time of the year. Big cold front now in the process of moving toward our area. We're starting to get clouds from it right now. It is not inconceivable we could see a light shower before midnight. This is going to get right to the coast and it's going to kind of stall in an east west position. All right. There is a chance, a 1 in 4 chance that by Monday some drier air could filter in from the north. If this thing really sets up east west. But really what we're looking for tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday is this frontal system to be right on top of this. It's going to bring us some shower activity. Scattered showers here and there tomorrow, Monday, maybe some decent rain. Tuesday, more scattered showers, reason Monday. This area of low pressure, not upper level storm. It's going to be moving northeast and come right over our area. That's where we may get the prolonged shower activity. Monday, temperatures are still going to be warm. We should still be in a southerly flow. Big heat pump, high pressure setting off near Bermuda. Just sending it all up. Warm air, humid air. Maybe by Wednesday and into Thursday, we'll start getting some clearing. But temperatures behind this front aren't really any great shakes. Now we're just 42 behind it in Kansas City. So really, I mean, if it gets to 42, that's our normal high for this time of the year. No exceptionally cold air expected to come down over the next five days. Warm day throughout the state right now. Even last night at 11:00, it was 39 degrees in Harrisburg. That warm front hadn't quite made it up north yet. But it looks like at this point, the warm front's well up to the north. 63 now in Harrisburg, northeast, 63, 62 over 65. Salisbury Ocean City. Now Christmas lights on the boats, 62 degrees 66. Norfolk 66, Richmond 65, D.C., 65. In some areas of Baltimore. The you know, Bay, tomorrow, it's going to be a nice day if you want to go out. You shouldn't see any you know, I mean, let's face it, Warm Miles will take advantage of showers. Heavy stuff shouldn't come till later. Southwest, gusty breeze, 12 to 22. Good sailing in that five day forecast from AccuWeather. Here it is. Temperatures still warm tomorrow, 67 degrees. Maybe those showers we talked about Monday. That's a day of prolonged rain, a high of 57, 60 degrees on Tuesday. Still some clouds clearing late Wednesday afternoon. It's Christmas. I'm an optimist that if more make it great, we'll say blue, but expect a decent amount of clouds. 54 degrees, some good clearing. 45 degrees on Thursday, Frank. That is it. That's the weather for Christmas night.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918#t=1452.91,1670.05
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918/transcript/74036/annotation/47
Speaker 1: Sounds good. About 3000 people celebrated Christmas in Bethlehem's Manger Square this year, but that number is down considerably from the 15,000 people that would swarm to the birthplace of Jesus every Christmas. It seems the economy is taking its toll on those pilgrimages. People just can't afford to travel to Bethlehem. There are several people here in the Baltimore area for the Christmas season who would rather be home with their families instead. They are here hoping for a miracle. I mean, if you can't have a you know, you know, if you can't have just a white coating of snow and see the Clydesdales limping up the street, you know, with snow kicking off your little hooves, you might as well have 70 degrees. It was a nice day. Things are going to be changing. Temperature wise, it's still going to be warm. However, we're looking for clouds to be moving in the next 2 or 3 days should be relatively dreary. All right. Let's take a look at current stats. Not to bum you out on these last few minutes of Christmas, but we just tell it like it is. That's right. I don't know what's more, right now on TV here. It's 62 in the suburbs, 58 in the city, 73% humidity. South southwest, winds at ten. The barometer falling now from 3018. All right. Now, here's what the situation was tonight. Real nice night. You saw some stars. You saw a real nice moon. If you look out through the trees, moon moving toward gibbous, however, there's clouds starting to move in the area now. This incredibly strong cold front that went ramming through the nation caused all the storms in California, caused all the problems throughout the Midwest. The Denver blizzard whole nine yards. It's starting to move to our northeast is going to drag a cold front through. That's where we getting our clouds for next 2 or 3 days. Temperatures still warm, though. Cloudy now in Oakland, 54, 59 in Cleveland, 61 in Hagerstown, Norfolk 62, Richmond 60 for Salisbury, 62. Ocean City now 60 degrees on the bay. Tomorrow, a decently strong southwest wind, 12 to 22, not sky track. The satellite photos show us this, you know, really decent sized cold front. The big storm center, of course, up to the northeast. But here's this cold front We're already starting to get clouds moving into within an hour and 20 minute drive of Baltimore by tomorrow. This frontal system is going to be kind of be laying in an east east south configuration. Okay. There is a chance warning for ever so slightly that Monday it will dip down to our south and some of the clear, drier air will move in, but we're not really going to count on it. It looks like this going to be our weather for the next couple of days. Like I said, by tomorrow it will be in close proximity to us. And it looks like the rainiest day now is going to be Monday into Tuesday because an impulse is going to move up from the Texas to the southern Texas region. It's going to fly along the jet stream, which, by the way, in case you're curious why it is warm, the jet streams, this lashing down south and then rising right up the East Coast instead of coming straight out of Canada and then, you know, almost making a complete U-turn and going up. We were just in a warm flow of air. But anyway, by Monday, this low will be up near our area. It looks like that will be the rainiest days. Showers possible tomorrow and Tuesday. But if had to lay some serious money down like Lucky Leo did on Washington on Randi sports report last week. Okay. We'll get to that. I'm sure in the sports segment you'd have to put down for your serious money to go down on Monday. Temperatures, though, they're still going to be warm. Let's look at the AccuWeather five day forecast tonight is going to be a really mild night. Overnight low tonight is 57 degrees. That's what it's going to be. That is 15 degrees warmer than a normal high for this time of the year. 67. Slight chance of showers tomorrow, 57 best rate on Monday, Tuesday, 60 degrees. Wednesday, 54 degrees. Some hopeful clearing by Thursday, 45 degrees and a much better chance of clearing at 8:00 tomorrow morning. We'll look for cloudy skies and 58 degrees. Frank, that is your Christmas night forecast. Best wishes to our good friend, Pete Horn.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918#t=2688.2,2874.83
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918/transcript/74036/annotation/94
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918#t=2875.7,2876.66
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918/transcript/74036/annotation/95
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918#t=2877.17,2877.17
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918/transcript/74036/annotation/96
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918#t=2877.92,2879.0
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/140543/file/259918/transcript/74036/annotation/97
Speaker 8: Hey, anybody with money on Washington? Second was the Washington pass combination of Tim Cowan to Anthony Allen. They connected for three scores, the last with six seconds left in the game as Washington beat Maryland by the score of 21 to 20. The Huskies wasted no time scoring opening series Tim Cowan 27 yards to Allen right corner of the end zone seven nothing. Washington Terps got a break near the end of the first quarter. The important extra point missed by Atkinson here and it was seven six Huskies at this point Washington scored again same combination as the first quick out Cowan to Anthony Allen He gets by Gil Hoffman goes 71 yards down the sideline for the score 14 six Huskies at the half Terps came storming out in the second half Esiason hooks up with tight end John Tice and he takes it the rest of the way This 136 yards and it's 14 to 12 Huskies now the Terps go for two on this one to tie it but Willie Joiner is absolutely stopped cold here and it's still 1412 after three fourth quarter big drive for Maryland and John Nash Esiason screen to Nash who is almost down manages somehow to get away here and carries all the way inside the Huskies 20 yard line a few plays later at the two. Nash gets the call once again. He goes on in and it's 1814 Maryland. They go for the two point conversion. Once again, Boomer is back. The blitz is on. He still manages to hit John Tice for two 2014 Terps, Another critical miss for Atkinson, 32 yarder would have won the game for Maryland. Instead, it remained 2214 12 seconds left. There wasn't a lottery number today. No numbers drawn on this Christmas Day. The Christmas holiday did not bring glad tidings of joy for a Saudi Arabian sheikh.
