Well, sound of the relationship allegedly started seven years ago. Over time, police say then 40 year old Joanne Grace Conn and the 17 year old fell into a consensual sexual relationship. Now, after losing a job, Conn is facing trial on child abuse charges. The relationship between Jo and Grace Khan and the former students seemed to start innocently. Khan was his drama teacher at Calvert Hall College High School. In a statement to police, the 17 year old says they became close friends when she gave him several rides home. Then one day, the student says Khan expressed feelings for him and the relationship quickly became sexual. He says that it included several sexual rendezvous at his house and her former home in the Mount Washington area. His statement also says he and Khan engaged in hand-holding and touching at school. Khan's marriage ultimately ended, and she moved to a new house on green Bay road. Police say the 17 year old decided to file charges against her a few weeks ago. Three other people were able to escape the flames, including a young boy and his grandfather. Healthwatch reporter Carolyn says patients are getting relief with a stretching technique called VAX D. In tonight's Healthwatch. 1 in 4 of us will have back pain at some time in our lives. Surgery is often the recommended course of treatment, but you might not want to hop on that operating table so fast. Another kind of table is helping doctors stretch away pain. I was very concerned that I'd never play golf again. I can't explain how extreme the pain was. It's worse than any pain I've ever had in my life. Maybe when it's talking about lower back pain caused by two herniated discs. But that pain is now behind him. I don't have any pain. I just feel a pulling in the lower back. A therapy called VAX D stopped his pain. A few months of 30 minute sessions can slowly decompress an injured disc. When the table opens up, their vertebrae are opened and that allows the material or the herniation to move back in relieving symptoms. Studies show a 70% recovery rate for patients who use VAX D. At the first couple of sessions, I was able to get up and start walking around and moving more, and as the sessions progressed, I really felt better. The therapy is designed for people who have low back pain due to herniated and slip discs, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. The procedure is for patients who have had symptoms for 6 to 8 weeks or more, and that have not responded to standard medical therapy. Although VAX D cost $4,000, insurance companies will sometimes cover it. If you want to try it, call a back pain specialist or chiropractor. We got about six hours in 12 minutes until the major league trading deadline. Oh, and so the Orioles, after seeing Jimmie Key's performance yesterday, thought they'd better go get themselves a starting pitcher. Major league trading deadline coming up tonight at midnight this afternoon. Late this afternoon, the Orioles worked a two for one deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Orioles acquiring right handed pitcher Juan Guzman, 31 years old, six losses, 12 six wins, 12 losses thus far this season through eight innings of shutout ball last night at the Rangers. Guzman to the Orioles in exchange for right handed pitcher Nerio Rodriguez, who had won just once in four decisions in this, his rookie season with the Orioles. Jays also get a minor league outfielder, but it's Juan Guzman coming to the Orioles for Rodriguez and a prospect. Also tonight it is once again time. Are you going to do that throughout the year? Is it just a summer thing? Probably going to go till the end of August as the lobster season starts to wind down. Hi, Denise. Once again, yes, it is a nightmare for inner and outer loop traffic here this evening. As you can see from Sky chopper 13 live, we are on the scene as this gigantic crane being hauled on a flatbed from the Locust Point Terminal to Rosedale got stuck under the overpass here at Washington Boulevard. Robins towing driver Henry Kaylor of Rosedale was traveling along the outer loop of the Beltway at about 415 this afternoon, hauling the crane from Locust Point Terminal to Rosedale when he got stuck under the Washington Boulevard overpass. And we just tried to find out how did that happen? He said that, actually, he had gone under several overpasses on his way down here, and, he had made it safely through each and every one of them until he got here to the Washington Avenue overpass. And he doesn't know what happened at that point. I was going about, you know, slow speed, under 50, like 40, something like that. And it just hit it and it hit the top section and rolled it back. So it's like another four inches and it would have cleared it, but right. Now Kayla was traveling with his dog Misty. And we're very glad to say that other than a bruised ego for him and a few ruffled curls for her. Everyone came out of this accident, okay? And Misty got a ride home from her mom, who stopped by and picked her up in the car and took her safely home. So it's the good news is that no one was injured. The bad news is that traffic is a nightmare right now, and unfortunately, we think it's going to be that way for a while. Denise. Oh, right. When are they going to move the crane in while they're attempting to move it right now? They looks like from this end, did they remove the overhead sign? They're trying to move the crane off of the flatbed.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136455/file/253046#t=3701.66,3813.01"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136455/file/253046/transcript/71317/annotation/37","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It's going to be about four hours by our best estimate. All right. Thank you. Gene, how bad is the backup? And what are the best alternate routes? Let's check in with Matt Tarka of the traffic team. Matt. Well, Denise, unfortunately, right now, everything on the outer loop completely shut down thanks to, the incident itself. Right now, you're going to find delays all the way in from 795. They're forcing detours on you. If you're heading on the outer loop, you have to get off on 95. What they're doing is putting you back on the 195 East, hit 2.95 northbound, and then you're right back up on the outer loop. If you want to stay away from the whole problem, stay on 95. Take that down to route 100, or even just travel the whole loop right back around to the Key Bridge. And that's going to get you where you need to go. Unfortunately, it's going to be affecting Washington Boulevard as they try to fix this whole problem. So it's going to be a mess. All 95 the Beltway and of course Washington Boulevard. And that's the latest back to you. Thank you. Scores of cars lined the streets of our nation's capital today for a final goodbye to a police officer gunned down at the U.S. Capitol. Earlier, hundreds of police officers from all over the country came to Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington to mourn his death. So did congressmen and aides on the Hill who saw chestnut each day at the entry to the Capitol building. That's where he was gunned down while helping tourists last week. Staff, we complain about the the tourist because they get in the way when you're busy and you got to get things done and things are happening on the floor and in a way. And then JJ would always remind you, but that's why we're here. It's the people and it's the people's house. And he did a magnanimous thing to give us life. Chestnut spent 18 years with the Capitol Police force and 20 years in the Air Force, including a tour of Vietnam. He leaves behind his wife and five children, one of whom spoke at his funeral today. Before was he was this hero of democracy before a door was named after him, before he was the first African-American to be laid in state, before he was mourned all over the world. He was neighbor, friend, husband. And to me, he was daddy. Hundreds of Capitol Police officers came in by bus, each wearing a black band around his badge. Chestnut was shot in the head by surprise. That was seven years ago. Over time, police say then 40 year old Joanne Grace Conn and the 17 year old fell into a consensual sexual relationship. Several weeks ago, we were approached by a young man who said that when he was 17 years old and a student at Calvert Hall High, he began a relationship with his English teacher and drama advisor. The relationship between Joanne Grayson and the former student seemed to start innocently. Khan was his drama teacher at Calvert Hall College High School. In a statement to police, the 17 year old says they became close friends when she gave him several rides home. Then one day, the student says Khan expressed feelings for him and the relationship quickly became sexual. He says it included several sexual rendezvous at his house and her former home in the Mount Washington area. His statement also says she and Khan engaged in hand-holding and touching at school. The former student says the relationship continued more than five years through his junior year in college. He told police Khan ended the relationship because it was interfering with her marriage. Khan's marriage ultimately ended and she moved to a new house on green Bay road. Police say the 17 year old decided to file charges against her a few weeks ago, when she told a mutual friend to tell him hello. He told our investigator that in late spring of this year, he ran across a former student. Former student, who said that? Joanne said, hi. This being the teacher's name. In his commentary tonight, Michael Wesker says Ray shonky is the surprise of this election season. Like this or any other election season, I would say Race Junkie was a Democratic candidate for governor whose campaign never quite got off the ground. Such things happen in politics. You advertise like crazy. You shake hands and make promises and ask strangers to help finance your dream. Where it gets different with shonky is that, having dropped out of the race, he has now reached into his own pockets and returned $250,000 to people who backed his campaign. I don't remember such a thing ever happening. Campaign money is usually given by people looking for an angle out of the giving a public works contract here, a piece of the action there. They know it's a gamble and not everybody can win, but nobody imagines losing and still getting their money back. In Chunky's case, it's a gracious gesture from a man with very deep pockets, he said, to be worth maybe $20 million, but it might also be a sign that here's a man who wants to run again and who wants people to remember he wasn't like every other politician who sweet talks you one night and forget your name the next morning. Ravens new look, two back offense to be led by Jim Harbaugh. Eric Garcia returning to his role as, backup after having performed admirably the final three games of last season when he took over as the starter, led this team to two wins. And partly because of those performances, and partly because of his new million dollar contract, Eric is just feeling a whole lot better about himself these lazy summer days. From a confidence standpoint, just getting out there and having played a little bit more and having gotten some more game action has helped. But, you know, other than that, it's really just going out and doing everything as normal. It's exactly the same. I go out and I prepare as if I'm going to start, and, I prepare as if I've got to play. I'm going to play a lot. And, you know, I work as hard as I can to try to put our team in the best position, possible to win football games. Eric has not thrown an interception in his last four games. Welcome to Insect Control and Research in Catonsville, where we came to test the mosquito hawk guaranteed to repel these dive bombing bloodsuckers. These are Aedes aegypti, Dick. They're the sort of the white rat of the mosquito world. They're often called the yellow fever mosquito because they can transmit that disease. Do I have yellow fever? No they don't. No they're not. Have you checked every one of them? No. The theory behind the mosquito hawk, according to the directions, is that it simulates the sound of the mosquitoes archenemy, the dragonfly. Yeah. What does that sound like? It's a sort of, a rapid clicking sound. It doesn't certainly doesn't remind me, of a, a dragonfly in flight. But I'm not a mosquito. The real test would take real flesh and blood. So Doctor Todd volunteered an arm. He left the mosquito hawk off to give the mosquitoes a chance to settle down and dig in for dinner.
