So every time the guy would come, I'd say, well, you know the milk and cookies is in there, so go help yourself. And I just, you know, they were always going to shoot balls someplace together. So there was no thought in my mind about violence to them. He would have them sitting around on the floor in a huddle and he was telling them, I want to tell you something. And I looked out and I said, this boy's not real. I mean this is an old man. Young people don't think this way, you know. He said, I want you to know something. And you listen to me carefully. He's telling all of them, you don't get out there and be intimidated by none of that. They're going to kick you, chest red, where they bump me. This is all the strength. You keep your mind on the, you understand that? You know, he was like, I said, what is this? If I kick you on the foot, that doesn't hurt, because your mind is on that, okay. This is the way you win. Everything else comes after, nothing. Don't let nothing. I said, oh my heavens, this is a teacher. He's a teacher. And I said to him, he said, Mom, this is what you've got to get it up here first. Then all this works. The fingers, the hands, the toes, everything works. But you've got to get it up here. This is what I'm trying to convey. I said, you know what, Benji, you're not going to be a ball player. You're going to be a great leader. Oh my goodness, I was just thinking about him being away at college now and coming home, you know, and I had to go to school that day and they had said, please come, the game is going to be played for you, so come to the school, and I thought he's not going to run out there. And then I couldn't go. I tried, and then my son came back and told me, he said, oh mom, you should have come, because they had a nice sign that said, welcome Ben Wilson's mother, welcome Mary, and you didn't show up, and everybody was expecting you. So I was kind of saddened by that. I said, well, I won't let him down next time. If they give me another chance, I'll go. But then one day, I forced myself to play in the game. I said, I'm going to go. So Beth called. She said, are you coming? I said, I'm coming. She said, are you really? I said, yes. So I walked in there, and just thinking about where he'd always be, you know, and it was just so hard. And then finally, I got involved in the game. And everybody said, hi there, hi, hi. I thought, OK. And I got to picking out guys and then I kind of picked out a guy that played, kind of made me think of him, and I followed him around and kind of got involved. I had to find a way to kind of cushion what I'd been used to looking for. So I said now I've got it made. Now if I got through this ball game I can go to others. I certainly don't like looking at anything about the funeral. That's the worst. of all. I never want to see him in the coffin. And someone mailed me a whole, the photographer who did all the photography. He said, I thought you might like to have this. It's that big. And when I opened it, they got him. That's the worst thing that could happen to me. I mean, that hurts me. I don't want to ever see that. That's the part I don't want to ever see is that he's ever been in the coffin. I don't want to see him in the coffin. So I don't know what he was thinking about when he sent me that whole, we had it somewhere around here. It's that big. And it's me standing there with Reverend Jackson and he's in the coffin. that's no good for me.
